JTP Cares – Havana, Cuba

Last week, my husband and I had the honor of working with some very talented media creators who worked tirelessly to capture and document a Convention that effects thousands upon thousands of Christians. Oh, and it happened to be in the nation of Cuba! The 2019 Cuban Baptist Convention was held at Calvary Baptist Church in Havana, Cuba, last week, and we were invited to bring over some extra equipment and expertise, and be a part of documenting the daytime and evening meetings and worship services.

The Convention has a wonderful team of young videographers, photographers, and journalists. They interviewed leaders and other attendees throughout the week, videoed daytime meetings and evening worship services, and even live streamed much of the conference! The talent and faith exhibited by these young people was both inspiring and challenging to us. They love Jesus and they love what they do to serve Him!

One thing we realized we could help with was photographing portraits of Pastors and their wives and families who were visiting from all over the nation of Cuba! They were happy to bring home a small print of that special memory, and we are excited to know that these photos will be used to tell the stories of God’s great work around their nation.

Since the conference took place in Havana, we also got to walk to and from our hostel to the church each day, taking in so many scenes that captivated us! We also enjoyed Cuban coffee, food, and music, and had a great afternoon of sightseeing and photo taking.

If you get a chance to visit the nation of Cuba, I would strongly encourage you to go! (Check out “casa tere” on Trip Advisor for a clean and quaint Havana hostel with a yummy breakfast and very kind owners!) And please join me in praying for US and Cuban relations, as they are a very special people, with so much to offer the world!
